introduction
The
Rio Receiver
is a self-contained audio player with built-in amplifier,
front-panel LCD and buttons, 10Mbit/s ethernet and IR remote control.
At various times it was sold under the "Rio" brand,
rebadged "SonicBlue",
and as the re-styled "Dell Digital Audio Receiver".
If you replace the Rio's original operating system software with slimrio, the device becomes much more useful by interacting with Slim Devices' powerful SqueezeCenter software (formerly called "slimserver").
To run slimrio, you need:
- Software running on some other computer on the same LAN, which helps the Rio to boot up; this can be either Rio's original "Audio Receiver Manager" software for Windows, or standard SSDP, DHCP and NFS servers
- Rio's operating system files (my contribution): slimrio-XXX-root.tar
- SqueezeCenter, to serve your music.
