To run slimrio, you need something to serve the Rio's operating system files (slimrio root tar from here) and music (SqueezeCenter from SlimDevices). You can do the first part with entirely open-source software or you can use the proprietary Audio Receiver Manager software for Windows, supplied on the Rio installation CD.
Using the original Rio-supplied music server application for Windows
If you have previously used the Audio Receiver Manager that came with the Rio on the installation CD, you can easily make it start slimrio instead of its built-in music server. The Audio Receiver Manager will only serve the operating system files at boot time, then SqueezeCenter will serve your music files.I suggest you get the original Audio Receiver Manager application working to serve music first just to make sure the networking is OK.
- Download SqueezeCenter and install it. It should start automatically.
- Download slimrio-0.7b-root.tar
and move it to the Audio Receiver's working directory,
overwriting the existing file you should find there:
Program Files\Audio Receiver\receiver.arf
You don't need to unpack the tar file, just rename it to receiver.arf . - Restart the Audio Receiver Manager application.
- Restart SqueezeCenter. You might want to configure some of its
settings with a web browser (http://127.0.0.1:9000/ on the same PC).
- Restart the Rio and it should begin
a new boot sequence.
